Apps Anywhere - Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I use Apps Anywhere?

Apps Anywhere is accessible on and off-campus at https://apps.salemstate.edu. It can be used on the following computing platforms: PC, Mac, Linux, Android, and iOS.

Apps Anywhere is also integrated into thin clients, which are small endpoints being deployed around campus. These devices use the Apps Anywhere platform to deliver you published applications and/or a traditional Windows Desktop.

The Citrix Receiver application is not required to access Apps Anywhere. Instead, users can select the Use Light Version link from the Citrix login page to launch Apps Anywhere in a browser.

Should you need to install, the Citrix Receiver installation instructions and other helpful solutions are available on Ask the Viking.

Where should I save my files?

There are a few places where you can save your files:

  • OneDrive - the preferred method for students
  • USB drive – access it the same as you would on a normal PC
  • Hard drive - if accessing Apps Anywhere from your own device
  • Other online storage services like DropBox, Google Drive, or Box

When using a thin client, files saved to the desktop or documents folders will not be available after a reboot.

Can I print while using Apps Anywhere?

If you’re on your own device, then your default printer will be mapped into your Apps Anywhere session. If you don't have a default printer set, then no printer will be mapped into the Apps Anywhere session.

If you’re on a thin client, then you’ll be able to print to the nearest GoPrint station.

Session Idle Limits

Sessions will be disconnected (locked) after 30 minutes of inactivity. Disconnected sessions will maintain your application state for two hours. This allows you to reconnect and continue your session.

Reconnect to your session

Active or disconnected sessions will automatically be rejoined for up to two hours.

How do I log out of a thin client?

There is a logout desktop icon on the desktop. There is also a logout button on the taskbar. If there are no open applications or virtual desktops, then you will be automatically logged out after 2 minutes.
