Will my diploma have my major, minor, and concentration listed on it?

The degrees Salem State offers are Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Liberal Studies, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and Bachelor of Social Work. The degree earned and majors are listed on the diplomas but minors and concentrations are not.

I have two majors - will I get two diplomas?

No. Students get one diploma based on the degree program of their primary major but as of fall 2019, both majors will be listed on the diploma.

Can I graduate with one major this semester and graduate with the other next semester?

No. However, students can graduate with one degree and then apply through admissions for a second degree program.

What will the size of my diploma be?

Diplomas are 8.5" x 11"

What are the GPA requirements for graduation?

All students must achieve a cumulative GPA of a 2.000 or higher in order to be eligible to graduate. Many academic programs have additional minimum GPA requirements. Please consult with your academic advisor if you are unsure about whether your academic program has additional minimum GPA requirements.

Besides unfulfilled degree requirements, what other things may prevent me from graduating?

An unfulfilled financial obligation to the university will prevent you from receiving your diploma and transcripts, which confirm completion of your degree. Once you have cleared your financial hold, these documents will become available. 

When are applications for graduation due?

Students should still apply to graduate by the deadline even thought commencement has been postponed.

Fall graduation applications are due on October 15th

Spring applications are due on March 15

Summer applications for students who wish to participate in the preceding spring ceremony are due on March 15th

Summer applications are due on July 15th

Late applications may still be submitted from within Navigator after the deadlines posted above and before the end of the desired term, but will be subject to a $50 late application fee and may result in additional consequences. For example, if your application is submitted too late in the spring semester your name may not appear in the commencement program and your diploma may not arrive in time for presentation at the commencement ceremony.

Do I need to apply to graduate even if I'm not planning on attending the commencement ceremony?

Yes, everyone needs to apply to graduate regardless of whether they are planning on attending the commencement ceremony. The graduation application provides an opportunity to select whether you will be attending or not attending the commencement ceremony. 

Can I still apply for graduation after the deadline?
