How Do I apply For A Salem State General Scholarship?

Some Salem State scholarship awards (SSU Grant, SSU Academic Scholarship, Honors Grant) are automatically considered alongside your application for admission and through the normal FAFSA process; however, several Salem State Scholarships require a separate application. Outside or external scholarships (non-Salem State) are listed in the Viking Scholarships portal.

  • To apply for scholarship opportunities beyond those covered by completing the FAFSA, students should log into the  Viking Scholarships portal using their Navigator login information (Salem State ID Number and password).
    • The Viking Scholarships portal can also be accessed directly through your Navigator account.

  • You must complete the Viking Scholarships General Scholarship Application to be considered.
    • You must answer every question to be considered for any scholarship.
  • Viking Scholarships Application for the next academic year will be open beginning December 15 and will close on March 1
  • You must be an active Salem State student to apply for and receive institutional scholarships.

Scholarship awards are decided by several different offices and each according to the scholarship's specific guidelines. That means that decisions could be made by an academic department, through the university's scholarship committee, or the Financial Aid Office.

  • Students awarded a Salem State institutional scholarship will be notified via email by June 30.
  • A student who is matriculated and/or active during the scholarship application period (enrolled in classes or on an approved leave of absence) is eligible to apply for a scholarship that will be awarded in the following academic year.
  • Incoming transfer students are encouraged to apply.
  • If you receive any Salem State scholarship(s), the Financial Aid Office will post the scholarship(s) to your financial aid package and appear on your Navigator account.

If you have questions, please email scholarships@salemstate.edu.
