How to- View and/or adjust my financial aid (PDF Version)

PC Version for viewing financial aid:

1. Log into Navigator.

2. Once at the Student Homepage, click on the "Financial Aid" tile.

3. One of three scenarios could be displayed on the Financial Aid screen:

  • If you have never filled out a FAFSA, the screen will relay the message that there is no financial aid information.
  • If you are a current student, have not yet been awarded and you have successfully submitted your FAFSA, the page will default to your previous year's financial aid summary. You may click on the "Change" button on the top-left hand side of the screen to change the aid year you are viewing. You will see a "Need Summary" if your FAFSA has been received for that aid year, but not yet processed and awarded.
  • If you have been awarded, the page will default to the "Award Summary" tab. This is where you will view your financial aid award.

CAUTION: Please be cautious of the aid year you are viewing (listed in the top-left corner of the screen).

NOTE: Under the "Award Summary" heading there is a drop-down menu where you may change the view. You may view the whole summary (full year) or by term (one semester).

4. Click on the button that displays a filter under the heading "Award Summary" to filter your award by category or status.

EXAMPLE: Category: grant, loan, waiver, work study. Status: accepted, declined.

5. If you wish to see more information on a specific award, please click on the award's row to view the "Award Details". In the pop-up window, you may view the term of the award, the award's status, the amount of the award and any fees incurred.

NOTE: For some loans, a disbursement fee is taken out of the individual loan value. To see the value awarded after fees, once you have clicked on the loan please view the amount listed under the heading "Net Award".

PC Version for adjusting financial aid:

1. Log into Navigator.

2. Once at the Student Homepage, click on the "Financial Aid" tile.

3. On the menu on the left-hand side of the screen, click on the "Accept/Decline" option.

4. A table will be shown displaying your award package. If you do not take any action, Salem State University will automatically accept any awards offered to you. If you wish to decline or adjust your awards, please click on the button with the pencil icon found under the heading "Accept/Decline".

TIP: If you have both unsubsidized and subsidized loans, you must first decline/ adjust unsubsidized loan amounts before subsidized loan amounts. If you attempt to reduce a subsidized loan first, the unsubsidized loan will be canceled by default.

5. In the chart in the "Award Decision" column, you may accept or decline loans and work study only. You may do so by clicking on the drop-down menu and selecting your decision in each respective row. You will not be able to decline grants or waivers.

6. In the chart in the "Reduce" column, you may check the box in the corresponding row with the award to reduce the award. A text box will pop up surrounding the award in the "Accepted" column. Here, you will type in the amount of the award that you would like to accept. You are not allowed to reduce grants or waivers.

CAUTION: A work study award does not get applied toward the student's bill. Those funds come in the form of a regular paycheck if the student works a job on campus. You cannot adjust a work study award, you may only take action to decline it.

7. Click the "Submit" button located on the top-left hand side of the chart. After clicking "Submit", please ensure that a successful submittal message is displayed across the top of your screen.
