Locate MAC & IP Address (Apple ID) for OS X 10.4 and above

The IP Address and MAC Address (Apple ID) are often needed to troubleshoot network issues.


Open "System Preferences" by clicking on the Apple on the top left and selecting "System Preferences".

In System Preferences select "Network".

In "Network" highlight "Airport" from the menu on the left (make sure Airport is Connected).

The IP address is located in the “Status” section on the right.

Example IP address:

To find the MAC address click on the "Advanced" button.

Select the Airport tab.

The MAC address, or Airport ID is at the bottom of the window. Example:

Airport ID: 00:21:e9:e5:a9:61
