Placement Testing Instructions

Orientation Placement Testing

All first-year students are required to demonstrate competency in Basic Mathematics and Reading Comprehension within completion of 30 credits at Salem State. Please visit the catalog for additional information, click here.

Our records indicate that you have not satisfied the Reading and/or Math competency and required to take an Accuplacer placement test prior to orientation.

Please see the instructions below on how to schedule a placement test with Salem State. Exams will be administered through Zoom/remotely with limited options for on-campus testing through the summer.

How to Schedule an Accuplacer test:

  1. Sign up for Testing through Navigate (use the hyperlink or download the Navigate app/desktop version)
  2. In Navigate select > Appointment > Orientation > Student Placement Testing > Orientation – Virtual /Online.
  3. Select and confirm your appointment date/time (mark your calendar).
  4. Refer to your SSU email for additional instructions and details (Zoom link, voucher information).
  5. Study for your exam: Accuplacer Reading and Accuplacer Math (click and download sample questions).
