Purchasing Technology

Student, faculty staff purchase hardware software discounts. No or low cost software for students.

What ITS recommends

ITS can help with purchasing computer equipment for your office. Please submit a IT Help Desk request describing what you need including as much or as little information as you know (for example a Mac or PC) as well as what type of work your intend to do on the equipment so that ITS can better assist you.

What ITS does not recommend

ITS has certain recommendations based on years of experience with a variety of manufacturers and models of computers. Although less expensive computer are available in retail stores than through our Purchasing department or through special programs like MassAdvantage, there are usually features lacking that make them less desirable to recommend to our user community.

How to Purchase

Computers and Peripherals: If you are employed at the university and are interested in buying a computer for yourself, please look at this competitive offer from Dell (Member ID: US126277712) and Apple

Software:  MS Office is available at no cost to currently enrolled students and can be obtained through the student's Office 365 email account. A variety of discounted software as well as free software can be downloaded from the university software library. If you prefer to not install multiple applications or programs on your computer, or just want to explore, please consider using the new service Apps Anywhere to access and use Salem State software on any computer or mobile device wherever you are.

Phones: Purchasing university phones

Non-suggested system purchases:  Miscellaneous items can be purchased through Staples. These items can include mice, toner for printers not eligible under the Ricoh agreement as examples. Need a quote, advice or see if there is available hardware in stock, contact the IT Help Desk.

NOTE: If you or your department wishes to purchase a specific computer or software package not appearing as available please contact your department chair.  The department chair will then contact the IT Help Desk, to initiate a helpdesk ticket for such requests.
