Registering to Vote

U.S. citizens who are 18 years old on election day are eligible to vote.

If you would like to vote in local elections in your hometown (a different town or city than Salem), please visit the respective city clerk or town clerk for more information. Please note that towns do not have local elections in November.

Local Election (in Salem): Tuesday, November 4, 2025 (8 am-8 pm)

Deadline to Register to Vote: Friday, October 24, 2025 (5 pm)

Students can choose whether to register at their campus address or at home. However, they can only be registered and vote in one location. The Berry IOP recommends that students living on campus register to vote on campus so you can vote right here in Salem at the Enterprise Center on Harrington Central Campus, as that is convenient and accessible.

Please think about where you would like to vote over the next few years before deciding where to register. Reach out to the Berry IOP for help.

  Resident Students Commuter Students
Which Address do I use? Residential students may use their on-campus address to register to vote in Salem, MA and vote on-campus at the Enterprise Center on Harrington Campus. Commuter students may register to vote using their home address. They will be unable to vote on campus at the Enterprise Center.
How do I register?

If you have never registered to vote and want to vote in the Salem Local Elections on November 4, 2025, you must register to vote.

Please note, if you would like to register to vote with your on-campus address to vote in Salem, you may not vote or attempt to vote in another city or town. Once registered with your on-campus address, you will be considered a Salem resident and will vote in Salem until you no longer live on-campus. 

If you have moved residence halls or previously lived off-campus and want to vote with your on campus address, simply fill out a change of address form.

If you have never registered to vote and want to vote in the Salem Local Elections on November 4, 2025, you must be a Salem resident to register to vote. 

Students who live off campus in Salem may use this address and vote at the respective polling location. Students who do not live in Salem can use their home address to vote in the respective city/town.

If you previously lived on-campus, but have moved off-campus and want to vote with your off-campus address, simply fill out a change of address form.

Steps to Register

1. Visit this website and answer the prompts.

2. Enter your name, date of birth, and other identification information.

3. For “address where you live now,” use this address:

  • 0 Salem State - (Your Residence Hall), Salem, 01970

4. For “address where you receive mail,” use this address:

  • 1 Loring Ave (Your Residence Hall), Salem, Massachusetts, 01970
    • Think about where you would like to receive your mail. If you would like to receive mail at your home address, please list that here.

5. Select your political party.

6. Review and Submit.

Out of State Students

If you are an out-of-state student, please keep in mind residency requirements, which vary from state to state. 

If you wish to vote in Salem, please contact your local city / town clerk’s office so you can be removed from their voter registration database. Then, you may register to vote with your on campus address. If you wish to vote in your state, please request an absentee ballot. You will not be able to vote in person at Salem State University.

Salem Residents

If you are a Salem resident and live on campus, please note where you would like to vote. You may use your home address or on campus address, but please be mindful that there will be different polling locations.

First-time voters may be asked for a form of ID at the polls in order to prove their address. The CCE canvasses outside the polling location every Election Day with Proof of Campus Address letters for students who may need them.
