Register to Vote for the 2026 Midterm General Election on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.

Voter Registration Eligibility

Voting is a civic responsibility and a privilege that not everyone has. Check your eligibility to register below. 

  • U.S. citizens who are 18 years old by Election Day are eligible to vote. 
  • Out-of-state students who live on campus.

If you are not eligible to vote, there are many ways to make your voice heard and actively engage in the voting process and election season. 

  • Educate yourself on what’s on the ballot and share your thoughts with those who are eligible to vote.
  • Work as a poll worker or poll watcher.

Registering to Vote

Did you know that Salem State residential students have dual residency, which means you have the option to vote on campus or at home?

Deadline to Register to Vote: October 23, 2026

You must be registered to vote where you want to cast your ballot and vote, and can only be registered to vote at one address.

The Berry IOP recommends that students living on campus register to vote on campus for the convenience of voting at the Enterprise Center on Harrington Central Campus.

Follow the instructions below to register or update your address.

  1. Determine Where to Vote

Consider where you want to vote and think about your schedule for Tuesday, November 3, 2026. 

  • Residential students may choose to register to vote on campus or at home. 
  • Commuter students may register to vote at home and will be unable to vote on campus.
  • Out-of-state students may also register on campus, or register in your home state and vote via an absentee ballot.

Voting on Campus

If you live on campus and want to vote on campus (Enterprise Center), you must register with the instructions below:

  • Register using the address: Salem State (Residence Hall), Salem MA, 01970
  • Mailing address: Loring Avenue (Residence Hall), Salem MA, 01970

If you’ve moved residence halls since being registered to vote on campus, you must update your address with your current residence area. 

Voting off Campus

Vikings Vote will mail your voter registration form to your town/city. Visit Meier Hall 316 or see a member of the Vikings Vote team around campus to complete a voter registration form. 

  • You will vote at your respective polling location in your town/city.
  1. Confirm or Update Your Voter Registration
  • If you are a residential student registering to vote on-campus and have moved residence halls since being registered, you must update your address to reflect your current hall.
  • If you are a new residential student registered to vote at home and want to change your voter registration to on-campus, you must re-register to vote with your on-campus address.
  • If you have previously registered to vote on-campus, but have moved off campus, you must update your address.
  • If you are a commuter student registering to vote for the first time, you must register to vote. 

First-time voters may be asked for a form of ID at the polls in order to prove their address. The Berry IOP Vikings Vote Team will be at the on-campus polling location (Enterprise Center) for every Election Day with Proof of Campus Address letters for students who may need them.

Follow the Steps to Register to Vote:

  1. Check off if you are a U.S. citizen. If you are not, you are unable to register to vote.
  2. Full name as it appears on legal identification.
  3. Former name if applicable.
  4. On campus: 0 Salem State, (Residence Hall), Salem MA, 01970
  5. On campus: 1 Loring Ave, (Residence Hall), Salem MA, 01970

For off-campus, your residential address is likely the same as your mailing address, so #5 can be left blank.

  1. Date of Birth
  2. Identification 

If you are a Massachusetts resident, use your license / identification number. This starts with an S (*not you Salem State S number). 

If you are an out-of-state resident, use the last four digits of your social security number.

  1. Telephone is optional and will only be used if the city clerk has questions on your voter registration form.
  2. Party enrollment must be selected. You can change this at any time. If you are unsure what this means, please contact the Vikings Vote team for assistance. 
  3. If you are already registered to vote at home, and updating your voter registration to on-campus, put the address at which you are currently registered. 

If you are updating your voter registration to a new residence hall, put your former residence hall address.

  1. Likely irrelevant. 
  2. Read the blurb to confirm you know what you are completing. 
  3. Today’s date at the time you are completing your form.
  4. Your signature
