Registering to Vote On Campus

Students in Massachusetts can choose whether to register at their campus address or at home. However, they can only be registered and vote in one location.

The Center for Civic Engagement highly recommends that students living on campus register to vote on campus. For the November 3, 2020 election, students can mail in their ballot or there will be buses on Election Day to transport student to and from Salem High School, this year’s polling location. To access the online or mail-in form, go to https://www.sec.state.ma.us/ovr/ and look under the section Elections and Voting.

The deadline to register to vote in the November 3, 2020 election in Massachusetts is Saturday, October 24, 2020. Please see the sample forms below for information to include to vote on campus. However, it is recommended to register as soon as you can, especially if you plan to vote by mail.

Important to Note

On-campus addresses are formatted by the Salem City Clerk’s office as follows: “0 SALEM STATE – RESIDENCE HALL, SALEM, MA, 01970.” Fill in the “address where you live now” section using that format. Under the “address where you receive all your mail” section, write your mailing address as given to you by Salem State. This is the address where you may receive Vote-by-Mail information.

First-time voters may be asked for a form of ID at the polls in order to prove their address. The CCE canvasses outside the polling location every Election Day with Proof of Campus Address letters for students who may need them.
