Returning from a Leave of Absence Checklist

Students returning to the university after a leave of absence are encouraged to follow up on the important items below:

Tasks, To-Do List Items, and Holds

To view any pending Tasks, To-Do List Items, and Holds:

  1. Log in to Navigator.
  2. Click Tasks on the Student Homepage
  3. When Tasks is clicked, any To-Do list items will appear. Click the arrow next to the task to view detailed instructions.
  4. To view holds, click Holds in the sidebar. You will see the hold's name and the department that placed it. Click the arrow next to the hold to view detailed instructions. You may be redirected to your Task list to complete an item.
  5. To resolve your hold, please click the row or hold you want to view. You will find the hold details here. You may be redirected to your Task list to complete an item.

If you have any questions about a specific hold, contact the department that placed it, as it is the only department that can assist with, resolve, or remove it. The department's information can be found by clicking the department name under Department.

Make an Appointment with a Professional Advisor

Professional advisors in the Center for Academic Excellence (CAE) - Academic Advising are available to meet with students virtually via Zoom, email, or in person to assist with their transition back to the university.

We strongly encourage students to download the Navigate Student app to schedule an appointment. Students can also sign up through the desktop version of Navigate. Instructions for scheduling an appointment through Navigate are below:

If you have additional questions, concerns, or need help scheduling an appointment, please email advising@salemstate.edu from your student email account, and a staff member will reach out to you.

Financial Aid

To receive financial aid, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each academic year at studentaid.gov.

Students interested in living on campus must pay their housing deposit through Navigator and complete the online housing application on Salem State's Housing Portal (deadlines vary by semester).
