I want to apply for admission as an art major. Do I need to submit a portfolio before the application?

Frequently Asked Question

I want to apply for admission as an art major. Do I need to submit a portfolio before the application?

Answer

While it is important to get all portfolio materials in before the deadline, an application must be submitted at the same time. Acceptance into the art program is contingent upon both the application approval and the art portfolio approval.

A portfolio submitted for admission to the art major at Salem State must include 10-15 pieces of original art and design work that use a variety of media and demonstrate a range of skills. Written descriptions for each portfolio piece should include the title, date, medium, dimensions, and short explanation of the purpose of the project. Portfolios should be submitted online at slideroom.
