What are Salem State’s procedures for handling complaints?

Under the university’s Equal Opportunity, Diversity and Affirmative Action Plan, sexual violence, sexual harassment, gender-based harassment, domestic violence, dating violence, stalking and retaliation are prohibited and will not be tolerated. Once a report is received by the university the institution will take prompt and immediate steps to investigate what occurred, provide protective interim measures to the parties involved and remediate the misconduct. Protective measures include no contact/communication orders, escorts between locations on campus, changes in academic or work schedule and more.

Both the complainant and respondent will be informed of their rights at the outset of the investigation. For more information on these rights, please see page 36 of the Equal Opportunity, Diversity and Affirmative Action Plan. Confidential and non-confidential reporting options can be found on pages 28-32 and the investigations and resolution procedures can be found on pages 57-62. Both parties will also be informed of the outcome at the conclusion of the investigation. Salem State will make every effort to conclude the investigation within 60 days of receiving the report. If you have more questions about the investigation process please contact the Title IX Coordinator, Siobhain Feeney at sfeeney@salemstate.edu
