Completing Your Housing Application Online

Step One: Complete Your Application

  1. Once you have paid your housing deposit, please wait 1-2 business days to reflect on our end.
  1. Go to salemstate.edu/housingportal. You will be able to log in and will click the SALEMSTATE - Student SSO Login. Please click it twice, and if you are not logged into your student email, it will prompt you to login and then you will be able to see the home page of the housing portal.
  1. In the housing portal, you can read messages from us, update your personal information, complete an application, select roommates and choose your housing for next year!
  1. Complete your application. Click on “Housing Applications” then choose the available application. NOTE: If you will see the application, (the associating years, ex: 2024-2025) Housing Application and will be able to click continue. Please ensure you have deposited for the corresponding semester you are interested in living on campus through your Navigator account if not, you will see a page prompting about submitting your deposit.
  1. Complete the personal information form on the next page. Click Continue.
  1. Next, you will need to electronically sign your license agreement. Please read the terms carefully, as this is a binding agreement for the entire academic year, and sign in the box at the bottom of the page with your cursor or finger. Click Continue.
  1. Continuing on you will see a page about Renter’s Insurance. We highly recommend enrolling in Renter’s Insurance.
  1. Complete the addresses/emergency contact page. Please make sure to fill it out completely. Click Continue. That’s it! You will receive a copy of your completed application via email. Save this email for your records.

Step Two: Choose Your Roommates!

NOTE: You will only be able to select a person as a roommate if BOTH of you have:

  • Deposited $300 by the corresponding deadlines
  • Completed your housing application by the corresponding deadlines, and
  • Updated all your personal and emergency contact information.

Before selecting roommates, you’ll want to update your Roommate Matching Questions to ensure that you’re matching with roommates who have similar living habits!

After you complete your housing application, you will be able to participate in the Roommate Selection.  You may Search for Roommates by one of the following ways.

  • By Details (search by Student ID number or Roommate Search Screen Name)
  • By Roommate Profile (search by Roommate Matching Questions)
  • By Suggested Roommates (see a percentage match, based on the roommate matching questions you both answered)

**IMPORTANT: Once you request a roommate, they must log in and click “ACCEPT” (the green button). If they do not do this, you will NOT be able to go through selection with them.

Make sure your group is complete and fully matched well in advance of housing selection!

Only one person can log in to select housing for the whole group. Make sure everyone is aware of each other’s selection time. Once they click Submit, there is NO changing during the selection process!

Step Three: Choose your Room!

1) Once selection times have been released in April (for Returning Students) or June (for New/Incoming Students), you’ll be able to see your selection time on your housing portal.

2) Once your selection time becomes active, click on “Applications”, it’ll prompt you to the Room Selection page. From there, you’ll be able to select which building you are interested in.

3) On the next page, you will see the available rooms and will be able to secure the assignment by click “Add to Cart” then you’d scroll down to “Save & Continue”. If you are selecting a suite, you will need to place each of your suitemates in their desired bedroom, so make sure you have a conversation about who will live with who/in which room in advance of your selection time! If selecting by yourself, please make sure your name is in the dropdown menu. Don’t worry about “Bed A or bed B” – that is just a way to distinguish each bed in the room and doesn’t matter. What DOES matter is who lives in which bedroom so make sure you have that info!

4) Make sure to click ”Assign Beds”. You will then be promoted to confirm the Housing Assignments in which you will proceed with “Finalize Housing Assignments” to complete the process!

You’ll know you have completed the process successfully when you reach the page that says “Congratulations – your room selection process is complete!” We’ll also send you a confirmation email and you’ll be able to see the assignment (EX: Fall 2024) in your housing portal after the selection process is complete!

Important Reminders

Lottery numbers are randomly assigned and there are only a certain number of room types available. PLEASE make sure to have a backup plan in case your desired room type is no longer available. If there are no more 4-person suites available at the time of your selection, what will you do? Break into smaller groups that fit a specific building? Make sure to have a plan B and a plan C!

You and your desired roommates must be registered for at least 12 credits in order to go through housing selection!

Make sure to fully match your roommate group well in advance!

Know your selection time -The person in your group with the earliest selection time is picking for the group!
