Alpha Alpha Alpha (Tri-Alpha) is the national first-generation honor society, recognizing the academic achievements of students (both undergraduate and graduate) who identify as first-generation. Membership is by invitation in December of each year, with an induction ceremony occurring in January.
Membership Qualifications:
- Identify as a first-generation college student (neither of your parents have completed a four-year bachelor’s degree
- Have completed the required number of credits: 30 for undergraduate candidates and 9 for graduate candidates
- Have earned the minimum required GPA: 3.2 for undergraduate candidates and 3.5 for graduate candidates
- Complete the membership form and pay the one-time, lifetime membership fee (cost covers both national and local dues
Students who did not receive an invitation to join the society but believe they qualify should email firstgen@salemstate.edu. The current co-advisors to the society are Mathew Chetnik (Assistant Dean, Student Success and the First Year Experience) and Professor Elizabeth Duclos-Orsello (Interdisciplinary Studies).
