Tau Sigma
Alpha Lambda Delta is a national honor society for transfer students. Its mission is to "recognize and promote the academic excellence and involvement of transfer students."
Tau Sigma at Salem State University is involved in community service and civic engagement projects, leadership development training and provides opportunities for students to apply for scholarships. Students inducted into the honor society receive a pin, membership certificate and honor cords to wear at commencement. Membership in Tau Sigma is for life and includes being part of an organization with students from over 225 chapters nationwide.
How do I join Tau Sigma?
In order to be inducted into the honor society, students must have a 3.5 or higher GPA (on a 4.0-point scale) in 12 or more credits during their first semester at Salem State. Students must also have transferred in at least 24 credits from another institution.
The first year experience office determines which students meet eligibility requirements and provides names/emails to the national office who will send out invitations to join the ceremony. Students will only receive one invitation to join. If a student does not join in the semester they are invited, they will not be able to join in the future.
To be formally inducted, students must complete an online confirmation form and pay a $65 membership fee by the deadline indicated. Students who do not meet the deadline to confirm their acceptance are not allowed to be inducted. There are no retroactive inductions past that deadline.
When do inductions occur?
Inductions occur in late September/early October each year. More details about inductions are sent to members via email after all materials are submitted. Students invited to join Tau Sigma, who have submitted their materials, can check the Tau Sigma website for details about the ceremony.
If I am a member of Tau Sigma, how do I apply for scholarships?
The national Tau Sigma organization distributes thousands of dollars in scholarship funds to members each year to help fund undergraduate education.
In order to apply, Tau Sigma members must meet the eligibility requirements and submit a completed application by the advertised deadlines. Students are encouraged to show their materials to the FYE office, 101A Dining Commons, in advance of the deadline to receive feedback to improve their chances of being considered.
