I have a smart TV. How do I connect it?

Smart TVs and most streaming devices (e.g Amazon Firesticks, Roku’s, and game consoles) will work on both the wired and wireless networks in the residence halls at Salem State.

Whenever possible it is recommended to use the wired connection (if the device has an ethernet port) rather than connecting wirelessly. A wired connection is always more reliable, especially for electronic devices that are not mobile (such as a Smart TV).

There are three ways to register your Smart TV:

To register your device, you will need to provide the device's MAC address which can generally be found in network settings. The wired MAC address and the wireless MAC address are different. Make sure you identify the correct address.

The URL for the SSU network access page is https://clearpass.salemstate.edu/guest/salemstate-guest.php.

  1. From the Smart TV: Connect your TV to either the wired network or the wireless (SalemState-IoT) network. If the TV has a web browser, open the browser and navigate to the device enrollment page. Select Enroll under Device Enrollment. Log in with your Salem State username (do not include @salemstate.edu) and password and fill out the form.
  2. From a device that is already on the network (your laptop, phone, or tablet): First, connect your Smart TV either through Salem State's wired connection or the wireless (SalemState-IoT) network. Second, from your laptop, phone or tablet, open a web browser and navigate to the device enrollment page. Select Enroll under Device Enrollment. Log in with your Salem State username (do not include @salemstate.edu) and password and fill out the form.
  3. If the registration page fails, it will be necessary to submit a request to the ITS Help Desk so they can complete the device registration process for you.

If you were hoping to use a Chromecast on our network, please note that because of the unique way they connect and stream media, Chromecasts are not currently supported.

At this time we do not support streaming devices or game consoles in university buildings other than the residence halls.
