How to access Apps Anywhere from a Chromebook
There a few different methods to access Apps Anywhere from a Chromebook.
HTML5 Receiver (also called Light Receiver)
This is the best way to access Apps Anywhere from a Chromebook. It's also the easiest. Let's break it down in three easy steps.
- Navigate to https://apps.salemstate.edu
- Login with your SSU account
- Launch an application or desktop
Your selected application or desktop will automatically launch within a new tab. This tab can be expanded to full screen by clicking on the HTML5 toolbar.
It looks like this by default:
It looks like this when expanded:
This is called the "Light Receiver" or "HTML5 Receiver". It's actually possible to use this method on a PC or Mac instead of downloading and installing the Citrix Receiver client application.
Chrome Receiver for Chrome
Another option is to download the Citrix Receiver for Chrome from the Chrome Web Store. This is a perfectly viable option, but it's not a better experience than the HTML5 Receiver.
Citrix Receiver for Android
Some of the newer Chromebooks have the capability to access the Android ecosystem. This means you can access the Google Play Store and download the Citrix Receiver. You would need to follow the same steps detailed in the Apps Anywhere for Android article to configure it. Again, this method requires additional steps and configuration without any perceived performance gains when compared to using the HTML5 Receiver.
