First-Generation Student Success Program Coordinators

The First-Generation Student Success Center (RISE Program) hires students to work as Program Coordinators. Students must have work-study through the financial aid process. The application link to apply is at the bottom of this page. 

Program Coordinators represent the RISE Program and university in a positive manner while working in the First-Generation Student Success Center (FGSSC). Program Coordinators develop programs with the first-generation coaching team and participate in the Center's mission to support first-generation students navigate both their academic and social life at Salem State University.

Program Coordinators will assist in managing the FGSSC, including providing guidance to students seeking assistance in the First-Generation Center, supporting the coaching team as required, and providing guidance and support to Office Assistants in their tasks. Coordinators will also provide support for a variety of projects dedicated to first-generation learners, including advertising events, scheduling appointments, and other administrative duties as required.

Position responsibilities are as follows: 

  • Develop with the coaches makeup workshops and related materials, for students
  • Develop materials and assist in managing the Center's presence on social media, in partnership with Office Assistants and coaches
  • Provide guidance and support to Office Assistants
  • Provide guidance and support to students seeking assistance in the First-Generation Center
  • Coordinate programs and events for the First-Generation Center
  • Other duties as required 

This is a work-study position. Applicants for the office position must have work-study through financial aid. Students must submit a FAFSA in order to be considered for work-study. 

Qualifications:  

  • Student must have work study
  • Students must be a Sophomore, Junior or Senior
  • Must have a minimum cumulative and semester grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 and remain in good academic standing
  • Understanding of, or commitment to, the SSU First-Generation Student community 

COMPENSATION: $15.75 per hour. 

HOURS: FGSSC Program Coordinators work 5 or more hours a week (depending on work-study award, schedule and availability). FGSSC Program Coordinators work out of First-Generation Student Success Center Office during normal business hours, Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm. Program Coordinators are supervised by the Administrative Assistant with functional supervision provided by graduate Student Success Coaches, Assistant Director, and the Director of the First Year Experience.
