How to Activate Your Canvas Courses

The following instructions are for returning faculty.

If you do not see your course(s) in the Canvas Dashboard, you must set them to active in the student information system (PeopleSoft).

Follow these steps to activate your Canvas course(s) in the student information system:

  1. Sign in to Polaris (ensure you are connected to the VPN, see VPN instructions here).
  2. Under Launchpad, select Student Information System.
  3. Select Continue.
  4. Sign in using your SSU username and password. 
  5. Select Faculty Center
  6. On the left side menu, select SSU eLearn Course Setup.
  7. At the top of the page, from the Term dropdown menu, select the term of your course (e.g., Fall 2023) and select Search.
  8. Under the eLearn Action column, select the dropdown menu and change No elearn to Active.
  9. Select Sync Status in the right-hand column for courses you have made active. 
  10. Repeat steps 8 and 9 for each course in your term. 
  11. Select Save and Post to eLearn at the bottom of the page. A pop-up window will confirm that your courses have been created.
    1. You may see an error such as the following:

      You are not authorized to run process type Application Engine and process name SC_LMS_OL_RQ. (65,8) SC_CLASS_ATT_WK.HRS_DM_SYNC_BTN.FieldChange PCPC:1891 Statement:29

      You can ignore this error; the process will still run.

  12. Sign in to Canvas with your SSU username and password. You should now see the courses on your dashboard.
