We believe it’s important to offer an easy, affordable way to protect the investment your family has made in higher education. That’s why Salem State University is pleased to announce we have partnered with GradGuard™  to provide our families with tuition insurance featuring special plans and rates not available to the general public.  Tuition insurance can help refund your tuition, fees, and housing, up to the policy limits, if you are unable to complete the semester due to a covered medical reason.

This insurance program complements and enhances our school's refund policy and we believe families will benefit from this added protection by offering reimbursement for covered illness, injury or mental health withdrawals at any time during the semester.

The deadline to apply is the day before the first day of classes each semester.

What is tuition insurance?

Tuition insurance provides peace of mind by reimbursing tuition costs and other select costs if a student withdraws at any time during the semester for a covered reason such as:

  • Serious injury or illness, including mononucleosis, COVID-19, or severe head injuries
  • Chronic illness, including diabetes or autoimmune disorders
  • Mental health conditions, including depression or anxiety

What are the benefits of tuition insurance?

GradGuard’s optional Tuition Protection Plan broadens the scope of the university’s existing refund policy by ensuring reimbursement for tuition, housing and other payments if a student withdraws for a covered medical reason such as an illness, accident, or mental health issue at any time during the term. For more information, rate quotes, and enrollment, visit GradGuard or call 877.794.6603 to speak to a GradGuard insurance specialist.

Covered medical reasons include:

  • Serious covered illness or injury
  • Psychological/mental health condition
  • Death of tuition payer

The plan does not cover a change in the university’s mode of instruction or withdrawal due to fear of the presence of COVID-19.

Students choose their own coverage limit based on their unique circumstances. Reimbursement can include:

  • Tuition payments
  • Room and board (on or off-campus)
  • Other academic fees

The GradGuard Tuition Protection Plan is offered to Salem State University students as a voluntary student benefit to complement the institution’s published refund policy. The university is not compensated for this program. Our partnership with GradGuard provides students who choose to enroll in the program with expanded benefits and reduced cost.

Tuition insurance is completely optional. We encourage all students and families to carefully review coverage details on GradGuard before purchasing. The insurance agreement is between you and GradGuard. Salem State University is not a party to the agreement. Insurance must be purchased prior to the first day of class.
