Information for Incoming Students

We are looking forward to supporting your success and hope this information helps you get started.

New students should receive username and password information from the Admission's office. This information allows students to access the university's academic resources, including Navigator, Canvas, email, and the wi-fi network.

All students currently enrolled in classes are granted a student license for Office 365 which includes the MS Office suite as well as 1TB of cloud storage.

Laptop Recommendations:

  • 2Ghz processor or greater
  • 4GB memory (no less than 2GB)
  • 160GB hard drive (no less than 80GB)
  • 256MB non-integrated video memory (no less than 120MB)
  • Wireless capability (802.11 a/c/g/n compliant)
  • Two or more USB 3.0 (no less than 2.0) or USB-C ports
  • 13" display screen or larger
  • 4, 6, or 9-cell high-capacity lithium-ion battery

Operating system:

  • Microsoft Windows 10 (PC)
  • Apple macOS High Sierra (or later)
  • Google Chrome OS latest version (Chromebook)


  • Microsoft Office (available for free with your student Office 365 account)
  • Antivirus software (must be installed, running, and up-to-date to connect to wi-fi)

Please check with your department before you purchase a computer. Some academic programs may have laptop/computer requirements that differ from the above.

Prior to arrival on campus

Login to:

  • Navigator
  • Canvas
  • Email account

Install software:

  • Office 365 (select Os for latest version installation instructions)

Operating System updates:

  • OS updates are essential to the functional performance and security of a laptop. Be sure to check for and install the latest software updates for a Windows or OSX system.

Verify and Update Antivirus (do a full scan):

Only one antivirus program should be on a system at any given time.

Malwarebytes works well to scan for malware on either Mac or Windows systems.
